On the first of March 2018, Belgium has started issuing e-Apostilles.
An apostille has already been implemented in 1961, in accordance to the Hague Apostille Convention, as a confirmation of the authenticity of the signature and the stamp on public documents and as an exemption of the legalization obligation.
Before March, the apostille existed only in a paper version in Belgium. Until May, this paper version will be a possibility next to the e-Apostille.
However, as from the first of May, the e-Apostille will remain as the only option.
In this light, Belgium has improved its e-Register, which is accessible via the website; http://legalweb.diplomatie.be.
Herewith, Belgium will be the 11th member state of the Hague Apostille Convention, which has implemented the e-App entirely.
